Major damage, little injury reported in U.S. 231 wreck

Friday, April 12, 2013

A two-vehicle accident on U.S. 231 at the entrance to the Edgelea Subdivision just north of Greencastle apparently looked much worse than it turned out to be Friday evening.

Although the accident report was unavailable at presstime, the 5:25 p.m. collision reportedly occurred as a teenage driver attempted to turn left off Edgelea Drive to go south on U.S. 231 and pulled her car into the path of a northbound pickup truck, hauling a stock trailer.

Impact caused extensive damage to the car, but occupants were virtually uninjured, according to reports from the scene.

The truck driver did complain of dizziness following the collision. He was reportedly transported via ambulance to the hospital.

His truck and trailer jackknifed in the collision and wound up in a ditch in front of Windy Hill Country Club on the east side of the highway.

The stock trailer was apparently not transporting any animals at the time.

Although a helicopter was seen hovering over the area soon after the accident, it reportedly never landed there, and no one was known to be injured severely enough to require being flown from the scene by medical helicopter.

Traffic on U.S. 231 was backed up initially 20-30 minutes and was reportedly slowed at times during clean-up over the next hour.

A complete report will be published as soon as the accident report is filed and released.
