The Greencastle softball team picked up its first win on its newly-improved home field on Friday, beating Crawfordsville 11-4.

The Tigers Cubs got a complete game from starting pitcher Madi Fauvergue, who had 10 strikeouts on her way to her second win of the season.

"The girls played really well tonight," GHS coach Dave Keller said. "The girls battled through a lot tonight. ... It seemed like every close call went against us and Madi probably threw 160 pitches when she needed to throw 110, but she battled through it."

GHS (2-5) fell behind 1-0 after the first half inning, then answered with runs in of the first three innings.

Makenzie Myers went 3-for-4 with a run scored, senior Ellen Gobert was 2-for-4 with two runs and Danielle Thomas was 2-for-5 with two runs.

Kenlee Johnson reached base four times, getting hit by a pitch three times and drawing a walk.

The Tiger Cubs took an 11-3 lead into the sixth inning when the Athenians loaded the bases with nobody out.

Johnson, the GHS catcher, fired behind the runner at first base to record the first out of the inning, then Fauvergue took care of the rest by recording a pair of strikeouts to end the threat.

"That (pickoff play) is faith between me and her, trust between each other, and trust between Courtney (Adams) at first base," Keller said. "We needed an out in that situation, so I was willing to let the girl that I've coached for seven years try to pick her off, and she did."

The Tiger Cubs have now won two of their last four games after starting the season 0-3.

They'll return to action Monday when they host West Central Conference opponent Cascade at 5 p.m.

"It was a good win for our young team and we've come a long way," Keller said. "I though we played a good game of defense and it was good to get a win. ... We're making great strides.

"I'm not saying we're where we want to be, but we're getting closer."
