Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department has two upcoming special events to announce.

Registration for both programs is available at City Hall, the Putnam County Museum, the Putnam County Public Library, Dr. Park Firebaugh's Office and Greencastle Pediatric Dentistry.

Spring is here so it's time to give your flying disc a fling at Big Walnut Sports Park's disc golf course in the Spring Fling Disc Golf Tournament from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 18 at the shelterhouse on the south side of the sports park.

Classified as an amateur-level tournament, it is a family-style event in which each team will receive a free disc from DePauw University's 175th anniversary. Other prizes will be awarded per age group.

Players are advised to register early for early tee times. Pre-registration required.

Fee for the event is $5 per family. Registration deadline is Tuesday, April 16.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, April 20 youngsters age 6-17 can join Assistant Park Recreation Director Troy Scott as he explores the sport of fishing and the joys of the Jaycee Park pond from 8 a.m. until noon.

The "Go Fish IN(diana)" class will take young anglers through the skills needed to select a rod and reel, bait a hook, types of bait, casting skills and the types of fish in the pond at Jaycee Park.

The "Gone Fishing" class will also meet most requirements of the BSA Fishing Merit Badge.

Fee for the fishing class is $10 per person. Registration deadline is Thursday, April 18.

For questions on any park program persons may contact Scott at 653-3395 or tscott@cityofgreencastle.com.
