Russell Keith Leslie, 82, of Greencastle, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 after a battle with lung cancer.

He was born on Jan. 7, 1931 in Greencastle to Albert (Bert) and Catherine Yankey Leslie.

He attended Greencastle Schools and was a graduate of the United States Armed Forces Institute.

He attended Lains Business College in Indianapolis, majoring in Accounting and Business Administration.

He was a member of the Phi Theta Pi International Honorary Fraternity.

Mr. Leslie retired from the U.S. Army on April 30, 1977 with 24 years of service. He served in Bracone, France; Heilbronn, Germany, and completed two tours of duty in Vietnam.

Russell earned the Meritorious Service Medal, three Bronze Stars, three Army Commendation Medals, the National Defense Medal and numerous other awards and letters of commendation.

Mr. Leslie also worked at Black Lumber Co. in Greencastle for seven years as bookkeeper.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Hildegarde Weaver and Doris Jean Dickey; and a brother, Donald E. Leslie.

Surviving are one sister, Mable Bowen of Hobart; a brother, Glenford H. Leslie of Greencastle; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Chaplain Steve Williams officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 19 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
