Volunteer recruitment focus of May 13 Foundation workshop

The Putnam County Community Foundation will bring Kathy Wojkovich to Greencastle to give attendees ideas on where to find and how to recruit volunteers in their community.

The workshop is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 13 at the Inn at DePauw.

Wojkovich began as the director of the United Way of Porter County Volunteer Center where the focus was to build capacity in the community by promoting volunteerism.

She has been involved with community philanthropy and fundraising throughout her married life while also raising six children.

"Organizations can breathe new life into their programs through the recruitment of volunteers," she stressed.

During the workshop, Wojkovich will share ideas on where to find volunteers in the community that will bring their skills and passion and will embrace an organization's mission. Also, she will discuss how to integrate volunteers into the fabric of your organization.

Coordinated by the Putnam County Community Foundation and the Montgomery County Community Foundation, the workshop is sponsored by the Bonner Scholar Program of DePauw University, and the cost is $25 or $15 if registered and paid by May 6.

Diabetes education group

classes offered at PCH

Putnam County Hospital will be offering a group class for diabetes self-management on Monday, May 6.

The material will be divided into two sessions: Diabetes 101: Diabetes Basics and Diabetes 201: Proper Nutrition which will include carbohydrate counting.

The 101 session will be led by Certified Diabetes Educator Annette Handy, RN, while the 201 session will be offered by Registered Clinical Dietitian Jamie Downen.

The class will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will meet in the third-floor classroom of Putnam County Hospital. All materials and a sack lunch will be provided.

Those wishing to participate must enroll in the class by calling PCH central scheduling at 658-2760 by Wednesday, May 1.

The participation fee will be $25 per person and will be collected on the day of the class. The class size will be limited to 20.
