Greencastle golfer edged hosts, finish in third at Braves
TERRE HAUTE -- The Greencastle boys' golf team came up just short of getting a win at the Braves Classic on Saturday. The Tiger Cubs' scored a 317, just behind host Terre Haute South (310) and local team Terre Haute North (314).
Junior Luke Brotherton shot a 73 to lead his team, the second-lowest score of the day.
"Luke really played well and shot a very consistent 18," GHS coach Steve Paquin said. "His score could have been much lower had he made some of his birdie putts."
Alec Davis had a 78, followed by Tanner Dean's 79, freshman Jake Buis' 87 and Wataru Otaki's 92.
"Alec had one bad hole," Paquin said. "Tanner had his best score of the season and had a strong back nine with a one-over-par 37.
"Jake continues to get better every day and needs to hit more greens to get his scores lower. This is a learning-year.
"(Otaki) struggles with his iron and short game, but continues to learn and improve his scores."
The Tiger Cubs are scheduled to host Terre Haute South in a dual meet on Monday at Windy Hill at 5 p.m.
