Nominations sought for Greencastle's Green Awards

A sustainable community doesn't just happen; it is the result of extraordinary effort.

The Greencastle Sustainability Commission is planning on recognizing those individuals, schools and organization that have made a difference in helping the city work toward a more sustainable and secure future.

The awards are open to any citizen, business or organization in Greencastle that has demonstrated outstanding efforts during 2012 and 2013.

Examples of environmentally friendly programs and projects may include, but are not limited to: Reducing lawn chemical use, pollution prevention and recycling activities, energy and water conservations measures, tree planting, stream monitoring and restoration, and environmental education, to name a few.

Awards will be given in the following categories: Educating for Change, Individual Green Achievement Award, Green Employee Award, Green Public Works Award, Green Business Award, Green Home Conservation/Renovation Award, Creative Communication for Change Award and the Building for Greener Future Award.

Nominations must be received at City Hall no later than 5 p.m. May 8. Award winners will be announced at the 7 p.m. Greencastle City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 14.
