Mary Elizabeth (Casida) McKamey

Mary Elizabeth (Casida) McKamey, age 70, Cloverdale, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at Hendricks Regional Health in Danville.

She was born April 16, 1943 in Martinsville to late Glen Rader and Mary Arbelle (Ogles) Casida.

She was a member of the Cloverdale High School class of 1961, where she was active in band and 4-H.

She married Renos G. McKamey on May 31, 1961 in Putnam County.

She was stricken with multiple sclerosis in 1979, and in keeping true to their vows of "in sickness and in health" was cared for by her husband of 51 years before he preceded her in death on May 12, 2012.

She was homemaker, baker of delicious breads and pies, and a seamstress who could create magic from a bolt of cloth.

She also served in sales positions with Sandra Parties, Wheatonware and Avon products. She also drove the Putnam County Library bookmobile.

She was a member of the Millgrove United Methodist Church, the Major Abraham Owen Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and the Double Friendship Homemakers Club.

She loved working on the family farm and growing fruits and vegetables in her garden and orchard and enjoyed doing family history research.

Survivors include two daughters and son-in-laws, Lisa Ann and Dean Fallis, West Point, and Ava Lea and Steve Larkins, Floyds Knobs; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Dr. Jon P. and Joan McKamey, Brookville, and Anson W. and Tonya McKamey, Cloverdale; one granddaughter, Claire Elizabeth McKamey, Brookville; three-step-granddaughters, Tiffany Compton, Indianapolis, and Camille and Phoebe Larkins, Ewa Beach, Hawaii; three sisters, Sheila Casida (Jim) Reeves, Columbus, Alicia Casida (Harvey) Shaw, Columbus, and Martha Casida, Cloverdale, and two brothers, Ralph Eugene (Fay) Casida, Cloverdale, and Michael (Patsy) Casida, Boyce, La.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 9 at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, where friends may call 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 8.

Interment will be in Doe Creek Cemetery.
