Greencastle wins double-header against visiting South Putnam

The Greencastle baseball team swept a double-header with South Putnam on Tuesday, winning game one 4-3 in eight innings and game two 11-0 in five innings.

The Eagles jumped out to 2-0 lead and maintained it until the bottom of the sixth when Greencastle finally got on the scoreboard.

SPHS senior JD Briones scattered 12 hits and struck out six.

Greencastle starter Brett Gierke allowed 11 hits and struck out three.

Tanner Nicholson went 3-for-4 with two doubles for the Tiger Cubs. Cole Pohlar, Landon Miller and Alec Pettit each had two hits.

Tyler Long and Jake Carmichael both went 2-for-4 for the Eagles.

In game two, Seth Brown earned a complete-game win for the Tiger Cubs. He held the Eagles to two hits and struck out six in five innings.

Pohlar was 4-for-4 with four runs scored.

Nick Scott earned the loss for South Putnam. Justin Bumgardner and Scott each had a base hit.

The Eagles (3-14, 2-8 WCC) play at Owen Valley on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Greencastle (6-8, 3-5 WCC) plays at Edgewood on Thursday at 5 p.m.
