With two hires at Wednesday's monthly meeting, the Greencastle School Board filled a pair of administrative vacancies within the corporation.

Mike McHugh was hired as the new Deer Meadow Primary School principal, effective at the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year.

Greg Hill was hired as corporation athletic director, effective immediately.

McHugh is returning to Greencastle Schools following five years as assistant principal at Plainfield's Clarks Creek Elementary School.

Prior to his time in Plainfield, McHugh spent the 2007-2008 school year as Ridpath Primary School principal. He left when family responsibilities required him to take a job in Hendricks County.

"I'm excited to be coming back to the county and to Greencastle Schools in particular," McHugh told the Banner Graphic. "I had a great experience here. I know we have a lot of people committed to serving our community."

McHugh, his wife and five children are Putnam County residents, living in the Fillmore area.

In Hill, the board brings extensive experience and success. Hill has spent more than 13 years as the athletic director at Brownsburg Community Schools.

He took the Brownsburg job in 1999 and retired in June 2012. He then returned on an interim basis until Brownsburg chose a permanent replacement in March.

In his time at the helm, the Bulldogs won state championships in baseball (2005) and boy' basketball (2008), as well as sending hundreds of athletes on to college careers.

Former athletic director Kelly Lewis was originally set to step down at the end of the year, but that date was moved forward. Lewis has been on vacation since early last week.

Hill is in the process of relocating to the Greencastle area.
