The all-WCC volleyball team was one of the few squads that had perfect attendance at the event. Cloverdale won the conference last season and had three all-conference members. The team includes (from left) Cloverdale coach Kathy Moore, Cascade's Brandyce Sallee, Lauren Schmidt and Audra Smallwood, Cloverdale's Taylor Jones, Bristy Skiles and Bradanne Toney, Greencastle's Rayleigh Amis and Alex Basile, Monrovia's Bailee Keen, Shelby Rickleman and Brandy Whitaker and North Putnam's Katie Welch. The annual West Central Conference awards banquet was held at Greencastle High School on Wednesday, honoring all of the all-conference performers from the 2012-13 athletic seasons.

Because this past season was the 40th in WCC history, the banquet also hosted a special guest speaker, DePauw University women's basketball coach Kris Huffman.

Huffman's message of hard work and intrinsic motivation was exemplified by many of the student-athlete honorees.

"Work harder than you've ever worked in your life," she said. "It guarantees you nothing, but it gives you a chance."

Greencastle High School was awarded the all-sport awards for girls, boys and overall.

The Tiger Cubs were WCC champions in four girls sports this year --track and field, cross country, swimming and basketball -- and six boys sports -- track and field, cross country, swimming, golf, soccer and football.

Numerous athletes made the all-WCC team in two sports, but only five are included in the very selective group that made an all-conference team in each season.

Cascade senior Brandyce Sallee was the only girl to make a team each season. Sallee played volleyball, basketball and softball for the Cadets.

North Putnam senior Jake Haste was all-WCC in football, basketball and baseball.

Greencastle sophomores Elijah Brattain and Taylor Secrest each made teams in cross country, swimming and track and field.

Monrovia senior Logan Fite was named to the team for football, basketball and track.

In addition to team awards, the banquet also revealed the 2013 all-WCC baseball and softball teams.
