GOSPORT -- When the first four scores came in for the Greencastle-Owen Valley boys' golf match on Thursday, they teams were locked in a 153-153 tie.

GHS senior Wataru Otaki's 43 as the Tiger Cubs' fifth-scorer beat out OVHS's Corbin Worland's 44 to give Greencastle the win.

The sixth scorer for both teams shot a 46.

GHS junior Luke Brotherton shot a two-under 34 and was the low scorer for the match. Alec Davis, the 2013 county and conference champion, shot a 37.

"The other Cub players got off to a very bad start on their first hole with a double- and triple-bogey," GHS coach Steve Paquin said, "but then managed to turn their round with some good scoring on the remainder of the holes."

Tanner Dean finished at 40, Jake Buis 42 and Carl Basile 46.

Owen Valley's best scorer shot a 36.

"We continue to struggle with shots from the fairway, putting the shots on the green and getting in the hole in regulation," Paquin said. "Our decision-making needs to improve throughout our top players in order to be competitive in the upcoming sectional.

"This was a good tune-up against a good OVHS team on their home course."

Greencastle's next match is an 18-hole dual meet at Windy Hill against South Putnam on Tuesday, May 28.

The 18-hole format will be preparation for approaching sectional play.
