Sheriff's Department

* At 1:19 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, Thomas D. Gray, 21, Spencer, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 1998 Honda Accord as Jon A. Dorsett, 51, Reelsville, was exiting a field on the west side of the road, attempting to make a left turn to the north in a 2009 Ford F350. The truck was pulling a trailer loaded with a bulldozer.

Gray told Col. Tom Helmer that as he rounded a curve in the road, traveling approximately 55 mph, he observed the truck and trailer exiting the field and slammed on his brakes, but struck the left rear of the trailer.

Dorsett said his view was obstructed by trees and the blind curve north of the field entrance. He said he was trying to accelerate the vehicle to clear the southbound lane but was unable.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 4:08 p.m. Thursday, Courtland T. Harris, 17, Greencastle, was westbound on U.S. 40 in a 1999 Dodge Caravan, trying to make a right turn onto County Road 300 West. But he was going too fast and went into the ditch.

Deputy Ronnie Campbell estimated damage at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 4:10 p.m. Saturday, Daniel M. Johnson, 48, Albion, was traveling around a curve in the Greenbriar Addition in a 2008 Honda Fit when he lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway.

The vehicle then traveled down a ditch line for approximately 30 yards before hitting a concrete pole.

Johnson said he was lost and didn't know the roads very well. However, he told Deputy Josh Boller he thought he was near or headed toward Fort Wayne.

The driver tested at .15 percent blood-alcohol content. He was booked into the Putnam County Jail at 5:10 p.m. on a charge of operating while intoxicated.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.
