Run for GHS's Weatherford, Lenihan and NP's Lucas continues to state
EVANSVILLE -- Greencastle senior Colleen Weatherford has proved she is up to the challenge in every race this season, and that continued at Tuesday's regional girls' track meet at Evanville Central High School.
Weatherford won both the 800- and 1600-meter events, advancing to state finals in both for the second straight year.
Another Tiger Cubs' athlete, sophomore Jessica Lenihan, will be joining her. Lenihan finished third in the shot put to earn a place at the June 1 meet. It will be Lenihan's first state finals appearance.
One other local athlete, North Putnam senior Sam Lucas, will go to the finals.
Lucas second in the shot put, just ahead of Lenihan, to qualify for her first state finals.
The Indiana High School Athletic Association girls' track and field state finals are held at Indiana University.
The shot put begins at 3:30 p.m.
The 1600 is set for 6:35 p.m. and the 800 is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
Field events do not have trials, and neither of Weatherford's races do, either. The 800 has two fields, one of 13 and one of 14, and the 1600 has all competitors in one field.
The seeds, groupings and lane assignments have not yet been announced by the IHSAA.
