Terre Haute South wins at Greencastle tennis regional
The Terre Haute South girls' tennis team won the regional tournament held at Greencastle High School on Thursday, beating Crawfordsville 3-2.
The Braves won at the No. 1 singles, No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles flights and now advance to Semi-State.
Abby Williams of North Montgomery also advances to Semi-State after winning the individual singles tournament, and the doubles team of Alissa Brouilette and Sophie Marquie from Benton Central also won to advance.
THSV's No. 1 singles player, Laurne Hambrock, improved her postseason record to 4-0 with the win over Kassidy Bonebrake, 6-1, 6-1.
The Athenians picked up wins at the other two singles flights as Hannah Chambers beat Jordan Davis 6-1, 6-1 and Destynee Nelson beat Sofia Saylor 6-4, 6-1.
At one-doubles, Miranda Camp and Nicole Howe topped Mia and Lizzy Katzenberger 7-5, 6-2. Shivani Purohit and Courtney Sheets won at two-doubles, 6-2, 6-3 against Emma Heinhold and Elizabeth Flynn.
THS and the individual qualifiers advance to the Center Grove Semi-State on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.
