Area 30 Robotics

Tuesday, May 28, 2013

The Area 30 Career Center VEX Robotics Club attended its first regional VEX Robotics Competition at the Ivy Tech Campus in Columbus May 18. Team members are (from left) Ruben Hinners, Sean Hinners, Zane Earles, Scott Cummins, Jacob Hendershot, Anthony Hendricks and Austin Query. Area 30 competed against 51 other high school teams in three different robotic events. Each of the robotic events is different by design, and intended to provide a significant challenge to students' problem-solving skills. Hendershot's robot design, driving skills and team assistance, proved to be a worthy competitor by placing second in the Marbelous robotic event. Hendricks also took second for his robot design and performance in the Full-Pull robotic event. Overall, the robotics team, consisting of Computer Systems Networking students Cummins, Hendricks and Query (SPHS), Hendershot (NPHS) and Auto Services Technology student Sean Hinners (NPHS), had a fine showing at its first robotics competition. Robotics instructors Zane Earles and Ruben Hinners said students learned valuable lessons while having a great time.
