Community shred event yields 7,500 pounds of paper

Friday, May 31, 2013

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Putnam County Board of Realtors, I would like to thank Farm Credit of Mid--America for partnering with us on May 18 to hold our 2nd Annual Community Shred Event.

Despite the rainy skies, individuals and businesses brought roughly 7,500 pounds of paper to Saturday's event to be shredded. According to ProShred, recycling the contents of the shredded paper from our event saved 59 mature trees.

The shredding service was provided free to participants, however many chose to make donations to our Scholarship fund. The generosity of those participants amounted to $750 being added to our scholarship endowment. This will benefit Putnam County High School Seniors through scholarships awarded each spring from our Endowment at the Putnam County Community Foundation.

In the past two weeks, the Putnam County Board of Realtors has awarded four $500 Scholarships to Putnam County High School Seniors. We would like to congratulate our 2013 winners:

- Bradanne Jeannette Toney from Cloverdale High School

- Landon James Miller from Greencastle High School

- Josie Lorraine Parent from North Putnam High School

- Ciera Elizabeth Wood from South Putnam High School

The Putnam County Board of Realtors hopes to be able to provide this free service to the community again next year. Thank you to everyone that volunteered that day, and to everyone that participated in the event.
