Area 30 says goodbye to Murray Pride

Friday, June 7, 2013

After more than 15 years of serving as the superintendent of two school districts and serving on the Area 30 Career Center Board, it was time to say goodbye to Murray Pride.

Pride attended his last Area 30 board meeting on Thursday morning as he prepares for his upcoming retirement. Now, Terry Terhune will take his seat.

The Area 30 board met Thursday to discuss several routine issues as summer begins.

The board approved several things including updating the Department of Education number for the Construction Equipment Operator program as well as approval to hold a summer staff professional development program, which will take place July 8-9 in Brown County.

Approval was also given to instructors Ruben Hinners and Zane Earles to attend VEX Robotics training July 22-24 at Purdue University in Kokomo. The training is free.

Among the personnel issues, the board approved the cancellation of guidance counselor Heather Elkins.

The board also approved to hire Marcia Murtagh and Kami Hyde as temporary part-time summer employment in student services; Austin Query as temporary, part-time summer employment in technology; and Hyde as the director of student services for the 2013-14 school year.

The next Area 30 board meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 16.

  • Mr. Pride, you are a class act and you will be greatly missed. I never really worked with you but have had conversations with you over the years and have gotten to know you and Mrs. Pride and you are both wonderful people. Your name suits you both well---you are, indeed, the Pride of Putnam County. Enjoy your retirement and hope to see you out and about!
