Bald eagle seized from Greencastle apartment

Thursday, June 13, 2013
Currently housed at a wildlife rehabilitator, this bald eagle was recently seized from the home of Jeffrey Henry. The Greencastle man could face punishment up to 60 days in jail or a $500 fine for the unlawful possession of the bird.

A Greencastle man was issued a summons to appear in a Putnam County courtroom after Indiana Conservation officers seized a live bald eagle from his residence.

On Sunday, conservation officers received an anonymous tip that Jeffrey Henry, 49, was in possession of a bald eagle. Once Officers arrived, the eagle was found in hiss apartment.

The investigation revealed that Henry captured the juvenile bald eagle near his residence days prior.

The bald eagle was seized and transported to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

The unlawful taking or possession of non-game migratory birds is punishable up to 60 days of jail and fines of $500.

Bald eagles are protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. This law provides protection to the bald eagle and golden eagle by prohibiting the take, possession, sale, purchase, barter, offer to sell, purchase or barter, transport, export or import, of any bald or golden eagle, alive or dead, including any part, nest, or egg, unless allowed by permit.

  • 500.00 and sixty days is a joke, under the Eagle Feather Act the fine is 25000.00 if found in possession of unauthorized person.

  • I was told that it was one of

The twins from Clinton Falls. I have followed those birds since the first week of April and was going over and sitting on that road three times a week photographing them as they was growing up. It breaks my heart to see someone wanted to hold it hostage. These eaglets need to be released so we can all watch these magnificent creatures fly

  • I've said it before, but I'll say it again ... NO WILD ANIMAL SHOULD BE KEPT IN CAPTIVITY BY ANYONE OTHER THAN A LICENSED PROFESSIONAL!

What does this idiot think he would have done with it when it got bigger? People only see "cute" and "cool" .. not "dangerous" and "illegal to own".

I'm glad someone turned this guy in.

You can't tell me this man "thought" it was right to nurse a bird back to health for 'weeks' then take it home with him. (throws the BS card)

He should have called the DNR. Take your punishment, dude. Bad call on your part.
