County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 1:40 a.m. on Tuesday Kathy Jane Niewald, 52, Brazil, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs.

* At 9:25 a.m. on Tuesday Daniel Keith Rutar, 46, Indianapolis, was booked in on a probation violation and possession of marijuana.

* At 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday Jesse Lee Witt, 30, Greencastle, was charged with resisting law enforcement.

* At 5:53 p.m. on Tuesday Claude Terrell IV, 39, Indianapolis, was charged with two counts of nonsupport of a dependent and contempt of court.

* At 6:50 p.m. on Tuesday Keith Ryan Harkness, 35, Greencastle, was charged with domestic battery and strangulation.

* At 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday Jonathan Cole Muse, 21, Cloverdale, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

* At 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday Steven Lee Newnam, 51, Greencastle, was charged with operating while intoxicated and public intoxication.

*At 8 p.m. on Wednesday James Douglas Benge Jr., 34, Greencastle was charged with invasion of privacy, harassment, bond revocation and stalking.

* At 8:10 p.m. on Wednesday Michael Dominique Hughes, 27, Greencastle, was charged with failure to appear.

* At 10:18 p.m. on Wednesday Gary Lee Means, 41, Cloverdale was charged with a probation violation.

Sherriff's Department

* At 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Anne M. Gray, 43, Fillmore, was traveling northbound in a 2009 Pontiac G6 on County Road 475 East when a squirrel ran into the road.

She told Sgt. Greg Slover she swerved to miss the animal and lost control. She then left the roadway on the west side and struck a sign and a concrete culvert and came to rest in a bean field.

There were no injuries reported.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

*At 7:06 a.m. on Monday Thaddeus W. Schoeneman, 30, Avon, was traveling westbound on Interstate 70 in a 2012 Chrysler 200S near the 46 mile-marker.

Schoeneman told Sgt. Jon Chadd that a deer entered the road from the north side and he couldn't avoid hitting it.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.
