Joann (Siegelin) Barrett

Joann (Siegelin) Barrett, Terre Haute, formerly of Brazil, passed away at Springhill Village on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 following a lengthy battle with cancer.

She was born in Brazil, the daughter of Arthur and Ruth (Emmert) Siegelin. Joann graduated from Brazil High School.

She worked as a legal secretary for Kenneth Miller for a short time before marrying Glen R. Barrett on June 16, 1951. Joann had also worked at the Brazil Hallmark and Elder Beerman as a sales clerk. More recently, Joann worked as a volunteer at the gift shop at Regional Hospital.

As a child she had attended Union United Methodist Church. Later, Joann and her husband became members of the First Christian Church. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxilliary at the Moose Lodge in Terre Haute.

She enjoyed line dancing, traveling and working in her flower garden. She was also a devoted mother and grandmother.

Joann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Glen in 1983 and brothers Carl Arthur Siegelin and Robert Siegelin.

She is survived by her daughters Jan Emsweller of Terre Haute and Lynn Barrett of Bloomington; grandchildren Kristen Bruna and husband Chuck of Brownsburg, Colin Boyll of Bloomington, Andrea Emsweller of Terre Haute and Devon Boyll of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren Rylan and Ashton Bruna; devoted friend Larry Neal of Hymera; a special niece, Marsha Nicoson and husband Bob; nephews Mark Siegelin, Ron Stinson, Craig Siegelin and David Siegelin.

Private graveside services will take place at Clearview Cemetery in Brazil with Pastor Bob Kumpf officiating, at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 400 8th Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47804 or the Moose Lodge, 5500 Wabash Avenue, Terre Haute, IN 47803.
