Remembering the fallen

Friday, June 21, 2013

The Fillmore Veterans Memorial Project kicked into high gear recently at the Fillmore Alumni Banquet with funding for the project nearing the 50 percent mark. The project is designed to create a permanent granite memorial approximately 5 ft by 6 ft and containing the names of the veterans that served in the military that attended Fillmore School. The memorial will be placed on the brick wall on the northwest side of the Fillmore Elementary building. The committee (from left to right) Patti Cash, Lu Jackson, Middy Phillips, Jim Woods, Darrel Storm and Steve Cash have been meeting regularly to verify names and find ways to fund the project. The goal is to complete the project by May 2014. Anyone wishing to donate or check about a name for the memorial can contact any of the committee members or send their donation payable to South Putnam Community Education Foundation (SPCEF) at Box 863, Greencastle and note that it is for the Fillmore Veterans Memorial.
