DePauw to host volleyball day camp

Wednesday, July 3, 2013

A two-day volleyball camp will be held at DePauw University on Thursday July 11 and Friday July 12, with two three-hour sessions each day.

The camp is for ages 7-17 and will take place at the Lilly Athletic Center on DePauw's campus. Campers may attend one session per day for $15 or both sessions for $25. Sessions are 9-noon and 1-4 p.m. each day.

The morning sessions will focus primarily on passing, serve receive and serving. The afternoon sessions will focus on setting, hitting and blocking.

Many campers attend both sessions, each day. Campers may bring a lunch from home or purchase lunch at DePauw's Student Union Building for $7.

Camp staff, consisting of DePauw coaches and players, will supervise campers during lunch.

The DePauw Volleyball Camp will divide campers into age groups and will focus on the fundamental aspects of the game. Each session will also end with an hour of fun and competitive team drills and play.

Younger age groups will have lowered nets and lighter volleyballs to assist in play.

To register for the camp, please call DPU Coach Deb Zellers at 720-3534 and leave a message with the camper's name, age, grade in school, school system and a contact number.

There will be a return phone call to confirm the registration and answer any questions.

Registrations will be taken at the door if space is permitted, but early registration is preferred. Participants are asked arrive each day at 8:45 a.m. to check-in and register.

Campers should wear t-shirts, shorts, gym shoes and kneepads. Water bottles are recommended.
