County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, Tiffany Neumann, 23, was charged with minor consumption and driving with a suspended license.

* At 5:12 a.m. on Thursday, Ashley Heather Wagner, 27, Greencastle, was charged with neglect of a dependent and possession of paraphernalia.

* At 1 a.m. on Saturday, Mary Katherine Stierwalt, 41, Quincy, was charged with check deception.

* At 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, Eric Wayne Smith, 41, Greencastle, was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

* At 5:45 a.m. on Saturday, Tonnetta Jean Evans, 41, Greencastle, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

* At 11:56 a.m. on Monday, Ellis Dale Gray, 45, Indianapolis, was charged with sexual misconduct with a minor.

* At 10:34 a.m. no Monday, Tom H. Tomlinson, 34, Fillmore, was charged with neglect of a dependent.

Sheriff's Department

* At 6:10 a.m. on Friday, June 19, Cynthia Rousch, 52, Brazil, was traveling east on U.S. 40 just west of State Road 243.

Rousch stated to Lt. Donnie Pettit that she fell asleep causing her to lose control of her 1999 Chrysler Sebring. Rousch proceeded to travel off the south side of the road and strike two mailboxes.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 8:40 a.m. on Friday, June 19, Linda R. Turner, 44, Martinsville, was traveling north on U.S. 231 just north of County Road 1100 North when she struck a deer that entered the roadway with her 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

Rousch was also cited for operating on a suspended license.

* At 1:27 p.m. on Thursday, William J. Moore, 19, Brazil, was traveling southbound on County Road 275 West when a dump truck was left of center.

Moore stated to Capt. Danny Wallace that he turned his 2000 Dodge Dakota to the right and that his front tire got off the roadway and he lost control of the vehicle going into an embankment.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 11:05 a.m. on Friday, Leslie Coffee, 26, Cloverdale, was traveling north on Stardust Way approaching Lazy River Road in Cloverdale.

Coffee stated to Lt. Donnie Pettit that she came upon a vehicle that was stopped in the roadway with no warning signals on.

Coffee veered her 1999 Ford Expedition to the right to avoid a collision. She then traveled into a yard and struck a tree in the driver's side rear door area.

According to Coffee the other vehicle left the area.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 1:25 p.m. on Saturday, Lida Oliver, 27, Greencastle, was westbound on Indianapolis Road, just west of Warren Drive in a 2011 Ford Fiesta.

Oliver stated to Lt. Donnie Pettit that Evangeline Strahl, 75, Fillmore, was traveling west in front of her. She went on to say that Strahl suddenly braked causing her to push in on her clutch and brake. Oliver stated that her floor mat was caught under the clutch causing her to slide into Strahl, who was in a 2013 Chevy Equinox.

Strahl stated to Pettit that she was at a complete stop due to stopped traffic when she was rear-ended.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 8:35 p.m. on Saturday, Brittany M. Means, 22, Cloverdale, was traveling south on State Road 243 just south of County Road 1025 South when she left the right side of the roadway and entered a ditch.

Means stated to Deputy T.J. Smith that she lost control of her 2004 Chrysler Sebring due to the water in the roadway. Furthermore, Means stated that the water prevented her from making the corner.

Smith did observe that the roads were slick.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 10:51 p.m. on Saturday, Robert J. Johnson, 30, Greencastle, was westbound on State Road 240 when he hit a deer that ran into his path.

Johnson stated to Deputy Mike Downing that he was unable to stop his 2008 Chrysler Town and Country and he hit the deer.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 3:25 p.m. on Saturday, Audrey Vermillion, 70, Bainbridge, was traveling south on County Road 275 East just south of County Road 650 North when she struck a deer with her 2013 Chevy Impala that entered the roadway.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, Dennis K. Whitlock, 68, Evening Shade, Ariz., was westbound on Interstate 70 near the 40 mile-marker.

Whitlock advised Sgt. Jon Chadd when he struck a metal object that was in the roadway with his 2011 Volkswagen GTI, which caused the right tire to blow out and caused him to lose control of the vehicle and leave the roadway on the north side and strike a large overhanging branch.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.
