Brattain, Dresbach defend 5K wins at Celebrate 4 Rokicki run
To spark the start of this year's annual Friends of the Park Association of Putnam County's Celebrate 4 Independence Day Celebration, 166 runners and walkers, along with another 40 in the Annual Firecracker Fun Run, took to the streets of Greencastle early Thursday morning, July 4.
Mother Nature provided a beautiful morning and running conditions for the contestants. This year's Mike Rokicki Memorial 5K Run/Walk event was the 22nd annual foot race organized by the Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department and sponsored by the Rokicki Foundation.
In the 5K Race divisions, 17-year-old Elijah Brattain from Greencastle defended his overall 5K Run Men's Champion title with a time of 18:15, 12 seconds better than last year's.
In the women's division of the 5K Run, Kathryn Dresbach, 35, from Greencastle, defended her title with a time of 20:37, besting last year's by 43 seconds.
In the 5K Walk divisions, Joanne Allee, 63 years from Quincy won the 5K Walk Women's division with a time of 36:41. The 5K Walk Men's Champion title was awarded to 48-year-old David Sillery of Greencastle with a time of 43:46.
The Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department would like to congratulations these fleet-footed individuals for a good show to the kickoff event of Greencastle's Annual Independence Day Celebration.
It would also like to give a thanks to the Rokicki Foundation, Phyllis Rokicki and family for again continuing their sponsorship of this favorite annual event and all of the participants and volunteers who played an important role in making this year's 5K road run and Celebrate 4 festivities a success.
The 23rd Annual Mike Rokicki Memorial 5K Road Run/Walk is set for Friday, July 4, 2014.
