The Area 30 Career Center Board met Tuesday morning for its annual meeting as it gears up for its students return.

Among several issues discussed, the board addressed its cell phone policy, which is one of the only changes in the student handbooks this year.

As of now, students are allowed to use their cell phones during lunch, while waiting for the bus or when a teacher permits. The policy follows a change the North Putnam School Board recently approved.

The board went on to officially approve both the staff and student handbooks.

New officers for the 2013-14 school year were also elected during the Area 30 board meeting.

Cloverdale Superintendent Carrie Milner will remain as president, Eminence Superintendent Terry Terhune will be vice president and Greencastle Superintendent Dawn Puckett will be the secretary.

As done annually, the board approved Larry J. Gesse as the Area 30 Career Center attorney and Cindy Burnham as the treasurer.

Among other business:

* The board approved the 2013-14 budget, which is just slightly less than last year.

* The board approved the leases for Old National Trail, Head Start and West Central Education Service Center. None of the leases have changed from the previous year.

* The board hired Chris Elsbrock for the adult education Inters data entry position. The position is a part-time replacement position, which is paid through adult education state and federal funds.
