Suspects in meth case await further hearings

Two of the subjects involved in a late June drug bust near Reelsville were involved in a weekend firearms incident, resulting in one of them returning to jail.

Brain Steve Doane, 31, Greencastle, was arrested on charges of public intoxication, possession of a handgun without a permit, criminal recklessness with a firearm and pointing a loaded firearm.

He was booked back into the Putnam County Jail at 7:21 p.m. on Saturday.

Lindsey Deal, 29, Greencastle, was also involved in the weekend incident, but was not arrested.

The following is a rundown of the legal proceedings against each of the eight suspects in the original case.

* Ronda L. Deal, 53, Reelsville is charged with conspiracy to deal methamphetamine (A felony), possession of methamphetamine (C felony), maintaining a common nuisance (D felony) and receiving stolen property (D felony).

In a July 1 pre-trial conference in Putnam Superior Court, Deal pleaded not guilty to the charges. Judge Denny Bridges set her bond at $100,000. She remains incarcerated in the Putnam County Jail, awaiting a Sept. 25 pre-trial conference.

* James D. Wright, 55, Reelsville, faces charges of dealing in methamphetamine (A felony) conspiracy to deal in methamphetamine (A felony), possession of methamphetamine (C felony), receiving stolen property (D felony) and maintaining a common nuisance (D felony).

Wright also appeared before Judge Bridges in Putnam Superior Court, entering a not guilty plea. His bond was set at $250,000 and a Sept. 25 pre-trial conference slated. He is housed in the Putnam County Jail.

* Luis Alberto Calderon, 43, Indianapolis, is charged with dealing in methamphetamine (A felony), conspiracy to deal in methamphetamine (A felony) and possession of methamphetamine (C felony).

Calderon entered a not-guilty plea on July 1 in Putnam Superior Court. Bridges set bond at $250,000 and set the pre-trial conference for Sept. 25. Calderon remains in the Putnam County Jail.

* Everett Earl Minnick, 50, Knightsville, is charged with conspiracy to deal in methamphetamine (A felony), possession of methamphetamine (D felony) and operating a motor vehicle after forfeiture of license for life (C felony).

Appearing in Putnam Superior court, Minnick entered a not guilty plea on July 1. Bond was set at $100,000. He remains lodged at the Putnam County Jail, awaiting a Sept. 25 pre-trial conference.

* Eric Steven Girton, 44, Brazil, is charged with possession of methamphetamin (D felony), possession of paraphernalia (A misdemeanor) and driving with a suspended license (A misdemeanor).

Appearing in Putnam Circuit Court, Girton entered a not guilty plea on June 27. Senior Judge Bob Lowe set his bond at $10,000. An Aug. 15 pre-trial conference is scheduled.

On Tuesday, Girton filed an agreement to modify the terms of his bond. However, he remained in jail as of Tuesday evening.

* Doane was originally charged with possession of a controlled substance (D felony), operating a vehicle while intoxicated (D felony) and operating a vehicle while intoxicated (C misdemeanor).

In a June 28 initial hearing in Putnam Superior Court, Doane entered a not guilty plea. Judge Bridges set bond at $10,000 with 10 percent cash allowed. He bonded out of the Putnam County Jail, but bond was revoked following his more recent arrest.

He awaits an Aug. 28 pre-trial conference.

* Lindsey Deal was charged with visiting a common nuisance (B misdemeanor).

She entered a not guilty plea in Putnam Superior Court on July 1, bonding out of jail the same day. Deal awaits a Sept. 25 pre-trial conference.

* Jacqueline Riser, 47, Reelsville, is also charged with visiting a common nuisance (B misdemeanor).

She also entered a not guilty plea in a July 1 hearing before Judge Bridges. She posted bond and will have a pre-trial conference on Sept. 25.

All eight suspects were arrested when the Putnam, Clay and Vigo sheriffs' departments served a warrant between June 25 and 28.

Besides the eight arrests, the warrant resulted in the seizure of nearly four pounds of methamphetamine and $250,000.
