Friday, July 19, 2013

The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Matthew S. Huber, will present "Storms, Flags And Vows" at 8 p.m. Sunday, July 21, rain or shine in Forest Park.

The storms will include "Rolling Thunder" by Henry Fillmore and "Storm Warning Rag" by Stephen Kent Goodman.

The flags are about the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's Brickyard 400 and Indianapolis 500 with the many flags utilized to signal drivers the past 100 years in a march by Fred Jewell, "The Checkered Flag." Jewell and his band were frequent performers at Indy during the 1920s and 1930s.

The vows, "I Do! I Do!" are from a Broadway musical in a Jones-Erickson arrangement.

Janelle Huber will conduct "IL Guarany," a Brazilian opera overture based on Indian life in Brazil, South America, in an arrangement by Sousa Band member Herbert L. Clarke.

Also slated are "Turkey in the Straw" by Denmark, "Cancionera" by Root, "The Greenbriars of Wexley, "Johnny Mercer Medley" by Cofield and "A Century of Progress" by John Philip Sousa.
