Roachdale Library to celebrate its 100th anniversary Tuesday

Monday, July 29, 2013

ROACHDALE -- The Roachdale Public Library will be celebrating 100 years on Tuesday with a birthday party from 5-6 p.m.

The birthday party is to commemorate the past 100 years of history of the Roachdale Library.

There will be historical items on display during the event, including the original Carnegie letters from New York when the library was established.

July 30 was chosen for the day of the event because it is the day that the cornerstone, filled with past relics, was laid for the library.

The community held a ceremony July 30, 1913, to lay the first cornerstone. The building was dedicated in early January 1914.

Library staff is looking for items to add to the cornerstone to be preserved for the next 100 years.

The library will be serving punch and cake through out the day to celebrate.
