County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 5 a.m. on Saturday, Hanna Louise Jordan, 21, Greencastle, was charged with domestic battery.

* At 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, William Leonard Matthews Jr., 33, Greencastle, was charged with domestic battery and public intoxication.

* At 4:30 a.m. on Monday, Justin Barger, 39, Greencastle, was charged with battery.

* At 12:20 a.m. on Monday, Glenn Ray Claxton, 50, Greencastle, was charged with operating while intoxicated and a probation violation.

* At 7:57 a.m. on Monday, Terry Lavelle Jordan Jr., 23, Indianapolis, was charged with criminal trespassing and possession of marijuana.

* At 4:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Ralph Donald Lee, 42, Terre Haute, was charged with being a habitual traffic violator.

Sheriff's Department

* At 1:59 a.m. on Thursday, Michael L. Skillem, 43, Coatesville, was eastbound on Range Line Road, where the road makes a sharp turn to the north at approximately 200 East.

Skillem stated to Deputy Craig Downing that a deer jumped out of the weeds and into the path of his 2010 Ford Focus. He then made an aggressive move to the right to avoid the animal and lost control of the vehicle.

Skillem left the south side of the roadway, went down an embankment and hit a tree head on.

He was transported via Operation Life to Putnam County Hospital and Jerry's Wrecker Service removed the vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 7:45 a.m. on Friday, Ivonne Martinez, 20, Greencastle, was traveling east on County Road 225 North, just east of County Road 600 West.

Martinez stated to Lt. Donnie Pettit that she lost control of her 1994 Honda Civic when she got into some loose gravel while rounding a curve on the south side of the roadway.

Martinez overcorrected, causing the vehicle to rotate counter-clockwise across the road, where she eventually traveled off the north side of the road and hit a fence at Little Walnut Cemetery.

Damage was estimated at less than $1,001.

* At 8:20 p.m. on Friday, Danny J. Malek, 42, Crawfordsville, was driving straight on U.S. 231 when Andrew J. Myers, 40, Greencastle pulled out in front of him.

Myers struck Malek's 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier with his 1997 Mercury Mountaineer in the right passenger side.

Reserve Deputy Denna Delacruz stated that Myers admitted at the scene that he had no insurance. Myers also had an expired license plate, which led to the vehicle being held at Jerry's Wrecker Service.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 3:02 p.m. on Friday, Nancy L. Wardlow, 63, Greencastle, was traveling southbound on County Road 450 West, just south of County Road 400 South.

Wardlow stated to Sgt. Jon Chadd that while she was rounding a corner, she lost control of her 2004 Toyota Rav4 in the gravel, causing her to leave the west side of the roadway and strike a fence.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 10:15 a.m. on Friday, Bram L. Baysinger, 23, Greencastle, was traveling on U.S. 40 East near County Road 800 West in a 2003 Nissan 350Z when a deer jumped into the path of the vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 8:54 a.m. on Saturday, Colin T. Dombrowski, 15, Greencastle, was attempting to enter U.S. 231 from Edgelea Drive in a 2004 Pontiac Vibe.

Dombrowski stated to Sgt. Jon Chadd that he did not see Dieter L. Schmutte, 46, Gosport, who was traveling northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2008 Nissan Altima.

Dombrowski pulled into the path of Schmutte and struck him on the passenger side.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 9:27 a.m. on Saturday, Marsha Synowiec, 71, Monticello, was traveling south on U.S. 231 in front of the Putnam County Fairgrounds.

Synowiec stated to Lt. Donnie Pettit that she attempted to brake for Keith Harvey, 62, Greencastle who was stopped in front of her and was attempting to turn left onto Edgelea Drive.

Synowiec stated that her foot slipped off the brake pedal of her 2008 Toyota Corolla and struck the accelerator, causing her to pick up speed and rear end Harvey's 2006 Ford Explorer.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.
