Sheriff's Dept. to begin charging for title checks

Monday, August 5, 2013

Starting Monday, Aug. 12, the Putnam County Sheriff's Department will begin charging a $5 fee for each title check that an officer must complete due to rising fuel costs.

Title checks must be conducted for all vehicles, boats and trailers that have out-of-state titles.

In addition, trailers that are homemade and autos that have salvage titles must be checked and a Bureau of Motor Vehicle Affidavit must be secured.

Persons needing a title check must first come to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, located at 13 Keightly Rd. in Greencastle, and pay the $5 fee.

An officer will then be dispatched to their residence or business to conduct the mandatory check.

For more information, persons may contact the Sheriff's Office at 653-3211.
