The vehicle drifted across the passing lane, getting its left wheels into the median before spinning clockwise back across the eastbound lanes. The car then continued onto the south side of the road, where it came to rest facing west.

City Police

A minor one-vehicle accident resulted the arrest of a 33-year-old Greencastle man Wednesday evening.

Michael Ryan Youngblood was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a property-damage accident following the 7 p.m. mishap.

The accident occurred in the 400 block of East Washington Street as Youngblood was riding a borrowed moped. He told Sgt. Charles Inman he was attempting to slow the scooter and locked up the front brakes, causing it to skid in loose gravel along the edge of the roadway.

After wrecking the moped, Youngblood reportedly took off on foot. He was arrested after registering a blood-alcohol content of .13 percent.

Youngblood sustained pain and discomfort and other slight injuries but declined medical treatment at the scene, police said.

One additional accident was investigated Wednesday afternoon by Sgt. Terry Eastham.

Thomas Montgomery, 22, Greencastle, was eastbound on Indianapolis Road, 150 feet east of Judson Drive, driving a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse, when a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero, driven by Joe Litchford, 86, Greencastle, pulled out of the Speedway gas station property.

Litchford said he was attempting to turn east out of the gas station when his foot slipped off the gas pedal and the car entered the roadway and then died.

Montgomery said he could not avoid colliding with the car as it stopped suddenly in front of him.

Total damage in the 2:57 p.m. mishap was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

One recent speeding citation was issued by city officers.
