Almost Home to host Clos la Chance wine dinner Aug. 13

Friday, August 9, 2013

Gail Smith, owner of Almost Home and the Swizzle Stick, and Glaicer of Indiana bring Clos la Chance wine to Greencastle for a wine dinner at Almost Home on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

With a night of food and wine Smith will also be hosting one of the owners of la Chance, Brenda Murphy.

Murphy and her husband Bill started their vineyard in their backyard with a few rows of Chardonnay and have slowly transformed their operation to 150 acres of land and 80,000 cases or wine a year in San Martin, Calif.

The Clos la Chance Vineyard is also certified sustainable by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance.

Smith found la Chance wine when she and a friend attended a wine tasting in early summer held by Glacier distributors.

"Out of all the wines that were there, this was by far the best," Smith stated.

She was able to book Close la Chance for a wine dinner and have the owner come out to Almost Home. This is the second dinner that Smith has hosted this summer with the vineyard owner attending. Smith is hoping for a repeat in the popularity of the first one.

Smith will be cooking a variety of dishes to help complement the la Chance wine being served. It will be four-course meal consisting of local, seasonal food.

For the first course Smith will be making a tomato caprese salad paired with a Clos la Chance Pinto Noir. Next, diners will have a taste of corn chowder made with Indiana sweet corn and a chardonnay.

For the main course beef tenderloin and sinful potatoes will be served with a meritage. For dessert will be homemade blackberry cobbler and vanilla bean ice cream with a dry rose.

All those who want to attend the $25 wine dinner on Tuesday, Aug. 13 may make reservations at Almost Home, 653-5788.
