DANVILLE, Ill. -- A group of athletes from the Greencastle Running Club traveled to Kennekuk Cove park in Danville, Ill. last weekend to compete in the Howl at the Moon 8-hour Ultra Run.

Everyone in the group ran for the full eight hours and traveled more than 50 kilometers on the hot, humid day.

Rebecka Howard, Michael and Michelle Scott, Kathryn Dresbach and Sylvia Kenworthy began running around a 3.29 mile loop at 7 a.m., completing numerous laps until the event wrapped up at 3 p.m.

Amanda Schroeder joined the team late and ran the final 10 miles with them, rejuvenating the crew with fresh legs.

There are several races coming up in Putnam County, including the Erin Go Bragh Fundraiser 5K on Sunday. Registration forms for all races can be found on the club's website.

For more information on the Greencastle Running Club visit their Facebook page at facebook.com/greencastlerunningclub.

Howl at the Moon is the largest timed ultra in the US.
