Young Greencastle golfers lose pair of matches to TH South, Cascade

Friday, August 16, 2013

The Greencastle girls' golf team was in a position to mix in some youth during its dual match on Wednesday with Terre Haute South, but while the team gained experience it failed to get a win.

The Tiger Cubs lost 196-238.

For the second straight match senior Liz Johnson was the low-scorer for GHS. She shot a 48 at the nine-hole event at Windy Hill.

"We played some very young and inexperienced players tonight and it showed in the score," GHS coach Bob Hedge said, "however, it is the only way for them to gain experience for future matches."

Ali Danielson of THS was the overall medalist. She finished with a plus-eight 44.

Greencastle was without the girl who has been playing No. 1 so far this season, junior Lauren Bridgewater. She missed the meet because of a family emergency.

The Tiger Cubs returned to the course on Thursday, traveling to Cascade for their third match of the week.

For the third time in four days, Johnson again led the Tiger Cubs. She scored a career-best 44 at Deer Creek but it wasn't enough as Cascade won 220-235.

"We showed improvement with our freshmen tonight, which is a good sign," Hedge said.

GHS's next match is Monday at North Montgomery at 4:30 p.m.
