County Jail

Two people were booked into the Putnam County Jail on Tuesday.

* At 1:50 p.m. Dustin Martin Tippin, 37, Greencastle, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and bond revocation.

* At 9:10 p.m. Matthew Steven Carman, 25, Avon, was charged with being a habitual traffic violator.

Sheriff's Department

* At 4:16 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, Zachariah E. Trivett, 19, Fillmore, was eastbound on County Road 700 South just east of County Road 560 East in a 2002 Chevrolet Impala.

Trivett told Lt. Donnie Pettit he was trying to pass two vehicles traveling east in front of him.

Trivett said he was unaware the lead vehicle, a 2004 Volkswagen Beetle driven by Hannah E. Wyttenbach, 16, Greencastle, was preparing to turn left onto Nolan Road.

As Wyttenbach tried to turn, Trivett's car struck her in the driver's side rear. Both vehicles ended up northeast of the intersection, with Wyttenbach's car off the road.

Trivett's car left 140 feet of pre-impact tire marks and 37 more after impact. Trivett told Pettit he was traveling approximately 65 mph.

Wyttenbach was treated by Operation Life for neck pain. Trivett complained of pain in the abdomen/pelvis area but declined treatment.

Pettit cited Trivett for speeding and for an unsafe lane change.

Also assisting at the scene were Col. Tom Helmer and Sgt. Jon Chadd.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 8:07 a.m. Friday, Melanie M. Boesen, 49, Greencastle, was northbound on County Road 800 North in a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox when she hit a deer.

Capt. Danny Wallace estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 4:35 a.m. Sunday, Ronald A. Haeston, 53, Plainfield, was traveling on County Road 200 East in a 1997 Toyota Corolla when a deer ran into his path.

He told Deputy Mike Downing he swerved to miss the animal and ran off the road and into a ditch, flipping the vehicle.

Damage was listed at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 7:10 p.m. on Monday, Amanda Frye, 29, Fillmore, was eastbound on County Road 50 South in a 2001 Ford Explorer when she became distracted by a dog in the vehicle.

She told Sgt. Gregg Slover the right side of the vehicle left the road and was pulled into the ditch, where she sideswiped a utility pole.

No damage was done to the pole and no injuries were reported.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 9:39 p.m. on Monday, Terry L. Thompson, 57, Poland, was westbound on U.S. 40 in a 1999 GMC box truck registered to West Central Plumbing when he hit a deer.

Deputy Matt Biggs estimated damage at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 7:27 a.m. on Tuesday, Austin Weimer, 19, Auburn, was southbound on U.S. 231 near the Putnam County Hospital in a 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis when he rear-ended a 2013 Honda Civic driven by Jennifer Van Haaften, 37, Greencastle.

Weimer told Lt. Pettit he observed a vehicle turn into the hospital in front of him and then noticed the Honda stopped in the road just south of the entrance. He braked but could not avoid the collision.

Van Haaften told Pettit she was stopped for a school bus when her vehicle was rear-ended.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 7:39 a.m. on Tuesday, Nicole F. Shively, 25, Muncie, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt when she noticed a 2005 GMC Canyon headed southbound in the northbound lane.

The driver of the GMC, 16-year-old Caleb D. Evens of Greencastle, advised Deputy Josh Boller his windshield started to fog and he could not see well.

Evens' truck entered the northbound lane and Shively could not avoid the collision.

Shively was treated for chest pain, while Evens was treated for back pain.

Damage was listed at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, Dejour C. Hereford, 21, Indianapolis, was attempting to cross State Road 75 onto westbound State Road 240 in a 2011 Dodge Charger.

Lt. Pettit advised that Hereford failed to yield right of way to a southbound 2000 Freightliner dump truck driven by John E. Wrightsman, 42, Greencastle, and registered to Cox Trucking.

Hereford's car hit the driver's side front tire area of the dump truck and also hit the rear axle area.

Hereford was cited for failure to yield.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to a number of recent dispatches.

* At 9:41 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, firefighters performed a medical assist at 1032 Canterbury Dr., clearing the scene at 10:21 a.m.

At 6:12 p.m. GFD investigated an unauthorized burn at 16 Beveridge St., returning to station at 6:26 p.m.

At 9:36 p.m. personnel investigated an alarm at 330 Greenwood Ave. The problem was caused by cooking. The returned to station at 9:58 p.m.

* At 5:17 a.m. on Sunday, crews were dispatched to an alarm at The Waters of Greencastle, 1601 Hospital Dr. Investigation revealed the problem was caused by a heater. They cleared the scene at 5:41 a.m.

At 9:23 a.m. firefighters were dispatched to an alarm at Walmart Distribution, 333 S. 10th St., but were disregarded at 9:28 a.m.

At 11:20 a.m. GFD responded to an alarm at 106 Spring St., discovering a cooking problem. Crews cleared the scene at 11:27 a.m.

At 4:35 p.m., personnel were dispatched to a gas odor at 16 Berry St. They monitored the air in the area but found no problem, returning to station at 4:59 p.m.

* At 12:41 a.m. on Monday, firefighters responded to a good-intent call at Shadowlawn and Highfall avenues. A neighbor called in the possible scent of a fire, but investigation revealed nothing. They returned to station at 1:05 a.m.

At 8:18 a.m. GFD was called to 602 S. College Ave., but was disregarded before leaving station.

* At 2:05 p.m. on Tuesday, crews investigated an alarm at 330 Greenwood Ave., clearing the scene at 2:17 p.m.

At 3:15 p.m. personnel performed a medical assist at 643 Walnut St., returning to station at 3:30 p.m.

At 3:17 p.m. firefighters were called to a gas leak on East Washington Street. They remained on the scene as crews fixed the broken pipe, returning to station at 5:12 p.m.

* At 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, GFD investigated a possible gas leak at 305 E. Washington St., clearing the scene at 10:14 a.m.

At 11:36 a.m. crews investigated an alarm at 408 S. Locust St., returning to station at 12:03 p.m.
