Russellville area to celebrate with Roundup event Sept. 7-8

RUSSELLVILLE -- The annual Russellers' Roundup celebration is scheduled for this coming weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 7-8.

All events will be at the Russellville Community Center with breakfast served both mornings from 8-10:30 a.m. Lunch/dinner will be available beginning at 10:45 a.m.

A health fair, sponsored by the Russellville Community Church and coordinated by Marcia Jenkins, will be conducted Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the gymnasium.

Health screenings by the Rockville Family Health and Help Center will include: Free blood pressure checks, 9-11 a.m.; A1C (glucose), $20; cholesterol, $25 (persons will need to fast for 12 hours prior to A1C and cholesterol testing); PSA for men, $25.

There also will be free dental screenings from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Seated massages will be sponsored by Carolyn's Spa and Salon. There will be raffle baskets and health information tables with handouts and various health matters.

Also on Saturday, a baby contest (newborn through age three) is at 2:15 p.m. with a Little Miss and Mister Saturday at 3 p.m. Interested persons should contact Andrea Winn at 765-592-7020 to register. All children are to be dressed in denim for the contest.

Other events include gospel singer Frances Bond at 1 p.m.; a Stamping Up hands-on workshop with Debbie Sage at 3 p.m.; magician Donald Bannon at 4 p.m.; and free line dancing with Ron and Janet Lehr from 6-8 p.m.

An open horse show will be held Saturday and a cowboy challenge will be staged on Sunday. Registration is at 11 a.m. and both shows start at noon. For $10, a person can ride all day (one horse/one rider combo).

DJ Donald Bannon will be on hand all day.

Sunday's events will feature church services at 11 a.m. in the gymnasium with the Stick with Hymn gospel group at 1 p.m. Registration for Gerry Thompson's Car Show ($15) is from noon to 2 p.m.

Both Saturday and Sunday will include food vendors, craft booths, cotton candy, sno-cones, lemon shakeups, children's carnival games, raffle drawings and a 50/50 drawing after the raffles.
