With Mayor Sue Murray (seated, left) proclaiming Wednesday, Sept. 11 as Friendship Day, sponsors gather in support of the annual event at Eitel's Florist. Along with Jenny Sullivan (seated, right) of Eitel's, sponsors include (from left) Chamber of Commerce executive director Tammy Johnson, Bill Tennis and Cathy Crispin of Wabash Valley Goodwill, Melanie Boesen of Ivy Tech, Nancy Michael of First National Bank, Jeff Flint of Bittles & Hurt/Hopkins-Rector Funeral Homes, Michelle Collins and Jennifer Ritchey of Asbury Towers and Becky Means of MetroNet. The event will feature approximately 11,000 roses given away in dozens with one stipulation, that those who pick up the roses keep only one for themselves and give the other roses to 11 other people. Roses will be available at the sponsor locations beginning at 8 a.m. on Sept. 11. Sponsors ask that participants drop off a canned food item for the Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry.
