The difficult early-season schedule has caught up with the Greencastle boys' soccer team, which lost to visiting Terre Haute South 2-0 on Tuesday.

The Tiger Cubs (1-4-1) got off to a solid start but their grueling schedule has caught up to them and left them short on conditioning, coach Dave Lilly said.

"With it 0-0 at halftime I really thought we would win the game," he said. "We were fairly evenly matched with them."

While the teams were balanced in the first half, the Braves made an adjustment to bring one more forward up on the attack and it paid off. Greencastle's struggles with ball-control continued and Terre Haute South put on more pressure.

Sophomore Grant Hammons opened the scoring, bending in a shot from 25 yards out that swept over the arms of GHS senior keeper Zane Miller five minutes into the second half.

Matt Green had the Braves second goal with 14:02 left. His attack was deflected in front of Crosby into the net.

Crosby had ten saves during the match and GHS attempted 12 shots.

Greencastle has a week off until hosting Southmont on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
