Mental Health America thankful for support

Thursday, September 5, 2013

To the Editor:

Mental Health America of Putnam County held its 9th annual "Mind Your Health" two-mile walk/four-mile run on Saturday, July 27. Each year we are delighted with the participation from Putnam County community members and individuals from outside our county. This event has continued to grow each year and we hope to see it grow again in 2014.

Without our race participants, we wouldn't really have a race and without our sponsors, we wouldn't be able to continue our mission in Putnam County and so we wish to thank everyone who participated in our fundraiser. Thank you for helping us to help others.

MHAPC strives to promote mental wellness and at the same time educate the community about mental illness. Our "Puppet Power" Program is performed in the county schools from Pre-school/ Kindergarten to sixth-grade each school year and will start up again in the fall. We have been able to assist 14 children in need of clothing through our Clothe-a-Child program this year. Our Parents/Children and Divorce classes continue to be offered 10 times a year. We present free education programs during the year to the community on mental health and wellness issues and have started to partner with the county schools to bring programs directly to the schools.

Due to the generosity of our donors and participants we will be able to continue our programs in the community.

On behalf of MHAPC, I would like to sincerely thank the following sponsors: The Irwin Fund, DePauw University Cross Country Team, The Blue Mile, Asbury Towers Retirement Community, Baker's Septic Service, Carpenter's Local 859, Culligan of Putnam County, Cummins Behavioral Health, Curves for Women, Dairy Castle, Dr. Dennis Knuth, Dr. Park Firebaugh, Duke Energy, First National Bank, HBG Insurance and Bonds, Hammer and Company, Huber and Sons, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Inn at DePauw, Lifebuilder Community Church, McDonald's/Jedele Enterprises, North Salem State Bank, Pike Lumber Company, Putnamville United Methodist Church, Teachers Credit Union and Tri-County Bank and Trust.

We would also like to thank the following donors for their generous contributions, which were used as prizes for participants of the race: Children's Museum of Indiana, Conner Prairie, Greencastle Physical Therapy, Indiana State Museum, Indianapolis Indians, Indianapolis Zoo and Kroger.

Sincerely,

Eileen H. Johnson, Executive Director,
