Taste of Putnam County to be staged on Sept. 21

Sunday, September 8, 2013

The Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce and Dixie Chopper Business Center will host the 2013 Taste of Putnam County, set for 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Dixie Chopper Business Center.

This will be the fourth year for this family event, and it keeps getting bigger.

The Chamber and corporate sponsors the Banner Graphic, Big Bounce Fun House Rentals, Bittles and Hurt/Hopkins-Rector Funeral Homes, Duke Energy, Greencastle Offset Printing & Graphics, Putnam County Hospital, Taylor Made Awards and Promotions, University Lending and Walmart Distribution Center are excited about the evening they have planned.

The Putnam County restaurants and food vendors participating in this year's taste include Almost Home, Asbury Towers, Charlie's, DQ Grill 'n Chill, Final Approach Restaurant & Pub, Inn at DePauw, Mill Pond Health Campus, Moore's Bar & Grill, Pizza King and Sweet Wishes by Eitel's Florist.

They will be bringing many dishes for all to sample and enjoy.

While enjoying the cuisine, attendees will have the opportunity to vote for the evening's best restaurant. The restaurant or food vendor with the most votes will be awarded the Taste of Putnam County Traveling Plate.

The Plate was awarded to the Inn at DePauw at the 2012 Taste. event

The food is of course the main attraction of the Taste of Putnam County, but it is definitely not all the event has to offer. There will also be live music from Barbara Ellen, Him & Her and Carly Rhine throughout the evening.

There will also be a bounce house slide, a blow-up jousting game provided by the Indiana National Guard, and free kids games (sponsored and operated by Autumn Glen, Mill Pond Health Campus, Old National Bank, PNC Bank, Putnam County Comprehensive Services, Teachers Credit Union, United Way of Putnam County), a beer garden, corn hole and the chance to win a large flat-screen television.

Additionally, this year Putnam County Family Support Services will be conducting its annual Chairish the Children Chair Auction at the Taste of Putnam County. So come out and check out and bid on the many original and varied chairs that have been decorated and donated by local businesses and organizations.

Tickets for the Taste are $5 each (ages 12 and under are admitted free with an adult) and are now on sale at the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce, 16 S. Jackson St., or the Dixie Chopper Business Center, at 102 Ballard Lane.

Tickets are also available at the door.

An entry ticket gets the music, games, chair auction and chance to win the Flat Screen TV.

Food tickets are $1 per ticket. No food item will be more three tickets, and most will be one or two.
