Fillmore chicken barbecue slated Friday, Saturday

FILLMORE -- The 54th annual Fillmore Volunteer Fire Department Chicken Barbecue is set for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20 and 21 at the fire station.

Serving starts at 5 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday. It concludes each evening at 9 p.m.

While this is the 54th year of the fundraising event, the department has a particular purpose in mind for funds this year. Having outgrown the current station on Hendricks Street, a new facility will be taking its place.

Proceeds from this year's barbecue will go toward construction of the new station.

As part of this year's event, the department will also be raffling off a grand prize donated by two local industries.

Magic Circle Corp. donated a Dixie Chopper Zee-1 lawn mower while Liberty Industries donated a 5-by-8 foot trailer.

Ticket sales have been going on since July, and the drawing will take place on Saturday.
