Senior trip to Montgomery Amish area set for Oct. 19

Thursday, September 19, 2013

The Putnam County Senior Center and Asbury Towers are sponsoring a day trip to Montgomery, the site of a large Amish area, on Saturday, Oct. 19.

A local guide will join the group as it travels through the countryside and visiting an Amish quilt shop, country store, bakery and greenhouse. The area is not as commercialized as some more known Amish settlements in the state.

The real treat will be a family-style lunch at an Amish farm home. The lunch will feature two entrée items, many vegetables, noodles, rolls, jellies, pies and cakes.

In addition to enjoying the meal at the Amish farmstead, tour members will have the opportunity to visit with the Amish family.

The tour will leave Greencastle by motorcoach from the Asbury Towers parking lot at 7:30 a.m. and return about 5 p.m.

Cost for the trip is $75 per person. Checks should be made to the Senior Center, 9 W. Franklin St., Greencastle, IN 46135, or to Asbury Towers' main desk by Oct. 4.

This trip is not a fundraiser for the Senior Center but is planned in response to requests of many seniors of Putnam County.

For additional information, please contact Julie Dozier at Asbury Towers, 653-5148, or Sharon Pitcock at the Senior Center, 653-8606.
