Catherine Bernice "Mamaw" Herald, 95, St Petersburg, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013.

Born March 17, 1918 to the late Michael and Martha (Wise) Brown she was raised by the late David and Catherine Wise, her aunt and uncle (known to her as Mom and Dad).

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Carl E. Herald. Together they raised two daughters, Dorothy Mae Glass and Patricia Jean Reading who survive.

Also preceding her in death were sisters, Francis (Bob) Webb, Joanne (Bud) Burkshire, son-in-law Eugene Reading and great-grandson Michael A. Hurtubise.

She attended Indianapolis public schools. Bernice and Carl resided on Indianapolis' West side, in Avon and Plainfield as well as Redington Beach, Fla., into the late 1900s. She later lived in Greencastle.

She worked for Gulf Insurance and American Art and Clay companies in Indianapolis. Mamaw will forever be remembered for her world-famous oats and made-from-scratch Thanksgiving noodles.

She is survived by daughters Dorothy (Richard) Glass, Patricia Reading, grandchildren Teresa (Steve) Maher; Sherrill (Dave) Reid; Larry (Sharon) Glass; Carla (Andy) Hurtubise; Joseph Bartos; Jeffery Bartos; Cathi (Rick) Letendre; Kimberly (Curt) Lightle; Roger Reading; Ryan Reading; nieces, nephews and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
