County Jail

Three people were booked into the Putnam County Jail on Tuesday.

* At 8:45 a.m. Heather Gilleland, 30, Brazil, was charged with failure to appear and driving with a suspended license.

* At 11:20 p.m. Kerry Wayne Gilbert II, 32, Indianapolis, was charged with failure to appear in court.

* At 12:18 p.m. Joshua Wade Turner, 31, Reelsville, was booked in on a probation violation and nonsupport of a dependent.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 10:55 a.m. Monday, Kevin Robert Jarvis, 56, Cloverdale, was

arrested by Capt. Mike Hanlon on Veterans Memorial Highway on alcohol-related charges.

Jarvis, who was lodged in the Putnam County, is charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Under testing at the jail, Jarvis registered .27 percent blood-alcohol content.

-- At 2:10 a.m. Sunday, Sterling Stone, 19, a DePauw University student, was arrested by Sgt. Charles Inman in the 500 block of South Main Street.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Stone was charged as a minor in consumption of alcohol.

Two recent property-damage accidents were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

-- At 2:52 p.m. Tuesday a two-vehicle mishap was reported on Veterans Highway.

Phillip Shanda, 45, Greencastle, was driving a 1995 Chevrolet utility vehicle, while James Coy, 35, Greencastle, was behind him in a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado.

Shanda told Officer Ed Wilson that Coy was tailgating him and then passed his vehicle. Soon after he passed, however, Coy stopped abruptly and Shanda's vehicle ran into the rear of the Coy truck.

Coy and a witness told police an animal ran out in front of him, forcing him to stop quickly to avoid hitting it.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

-- At 2:49 p.m. Saturday, a two-car mishap was reported on Indianapolis Road in front of Wendy's.

Sgt. Terry Eastham reported that Russell Huffer, 25, Coatesville, was eastbound on Indianapolis Road, driving a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu, when a 1995 Buick LeSabre, driven by Nancy Mays, 72, Greencastle, pulled out of the Wendy's exit in front of him.

Total damage was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

Officer Matt Huffman issued a pair of citations to two drivers in separate incidents recently.

-- At 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Terry King II, 26, Coatesville, was stopped by Officer Huffman at U.S. 231 and County Road 300 South.

King was cited for no proof of insurance and an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

-- At 6:55 p.m. Sept. 24, Jessica Spence, 17, Greencastle, was stopped at Indianapolis Road and Fifth Street by Officer Huffman.

Spence was cited for no registration plate and for having no operator's license when required.
