Mary Ann Frye, 84, Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Greencastle, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013.

Mrs. Frye was born on May 27, 1929 in Greencastle. The daughter of Albert and Grace Williams, she spent most of her life in Greencastle before relocating to Sarasota in 2003 to be closer to family.

While in Greencastle, she met her future husband, Walter Frye Jr., and the two would be married for 57 years before his death in 2004.

Mrs. Frye was a homemaker and beloved mother to Jay, Nancy and Ted.

Mrs. Frye spent thousands of hours volunteering and helping run the gift shop at Putnam County Hospital in Greencastle. For most of her life she loved volunteering her time and helping others in her community.

She was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), American Legion and Lady of the Elks.

Mrs. Frye is survived by son Jay and wife Cheryl Frye of Sarasota; daughter Nancy (Frye) Lockwood and fiancée Robert Christian of Sarasota; son Ted Frye of Fort Wayne; grandchildren Scott Lockwood of Sarasota, Anthony and wife Della Frye of Sarasota, Matt Frye and wife Nadia of Pullman, Wash.; Ashley (Frye) and husband Josh Seward of Fort Wayne; and Alec Bunt of Fort Wayne. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Maddie, A.J., Cohen, Peyton and Cody Frye along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter, sisters Irma (Williams) Hurst, Imogene (Williams) Richards, Wanda (Williams) Bundy and brother Leon Williams.

Visitation was held at Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home, Sarasota, on Oct. 2 with a service immediately following.
