North Putnam High School recently announced that Gwendolyn Yvonne Mazur, class of 2014, has been named a Commended Student in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program.

A letter of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, will be presented to Gwendolyn in recognition of her achievement.

She is the daughter of Jessica Abbot and Bud Mazur.

Gwendolyn is among almost 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation receiving recognition for exceptional academic promise.

Although Gwendolyn will not continue in the 2014 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, she placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

"We are very proud of Gwendolyn's accomplishments and academic success," North Putnam principal Alan Zerkel said. "This honor exemplifies the recognition and reward that can be achieved through dedication to academic study."
