City Police

A pair of recent traffic accidents were investigated by Greencastle City Police Officer Jeff Modlin.

-- At 9:34 a.m. Saturday, a 50-year-old Putnam County woman suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident on Veterans Memorial Highway at Percy Julian Drive.

Deborah Phillips, 42, Greencastle, was stopped southbound for the four-way stopsign. Driving a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer, she was waved on by another driver to cross Veterans Highway.

As Phillips entered the intersection, her vehicle was struck by a westbound 1995 Ford Taurus, driven by Sherry Hanley, Reelsville, who did not stop at the stopsign, Officer Modlin noted.

Hanley reportedly suffered facial injuries when the air bag on her car deployed. She was transported to Putnam County Hospital via Operation Life ambulance.

Total damage in the accident was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

-- At 9:21 a.m. Sunday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on North Jackson Street near its intersection with Frazier Street.

Garry Jones, 62, Cloverdale, was reportedly northbound, driving a 2002 Ford F-150 truck when he stopped to turn onto Frazier Street.

Northbound behind the Jones truck was a 2001 Ford Fusion, driven by Linda Freund, 54, Coatesville. Thinking Jones was turning left, Freund attempted to go around on the right and her car collided with the truck.

Officer Modlin listed total damage in the mishap at $2,500-$5,000.

Three recent traffic citations were issued by city officers.

-- At 10:09 p.m. Monday, Sondra Green, 29, Poland, was stopped at 10th Street and Avenue C and cited by Officer Kyle Lee for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

-- At 9:13 p.m. Sunday, Diana Stephens, 51, Veedersburg, was cited on Indianapolis Road by Sgt. Charles Inman for driving with a suspended license.

--At 5:40 p.m. Friday, Christina Christian, 23, Cloverdale, was ticketed by Officer Albert Epple for 46 mph in a 20-mph school zone on Percy Julian Drive.

County Jail

Several people have been booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 3:03 p.m. Friday, Donald Eugene Majors, 59, Terre Haute, was arrested for probation violation and nonsupport of a dependent.

* At 3:37 a.m. Saturday, Daniel Scott Hayes, 56, Greencastle, was charged with operating while intoxicated and public intoxication.

At 4:56 p.m. Charles Howard Corbin Jr., 43, Roachdale, was held at the jail for violation of home detention.

At 6:19 p.m. Richard John Hudson, 39, Mooresville, was booked in on a theft warrant.

At 8:53 p.m. Brian Nathan Curtis, 47, Cloverdale, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

At 9:04 p.m. Kellie Marie Lamothe, 20, Greencastle, was charged with theft.

At 9:39 p.m. Hannah Tina Short, 19, Greencastle, was held at the jail for theft and resisting law enforcement.

* At 2:16 a.m. Sunday, Richard Aaron Jordan, 23, Indianapolis, was booked in for trespassing.

Sheriff's Department

* At 1:56 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, Amber R. Porter, 24, Rockville, eastbound on U.S. 36 going down a slight grade in a 2001 Ford Focus.

Driving in heavy rain, Porter lost control of the vehicle, crossing the center line and both westbound lanes. The vehicle then left the road and hit a rock wall.

The driver suffered contusions to her head and was transported to Hendricks Regional Hospital by PMH Ambulance.

Reserve deputy Ken Rozelle, the investigating officer, said he smelled alcohol, so a portable breath test was administered by deputy T.J. Smith. Porter's blood alcohol content registered at .128 percent.

Rozelle also traveled to the hospital to obtain blood test results.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 5:37 p.m. on Saturday, Taylor M. Grundlock, 18, Coatesville, was northbound on County Road 725 East in a 1999 Ford Explorer when he lost control.

Sgt. Craig Sibbitt said it appeared the vehicle left the east side of the road onto the shoulder or ditch and lost control, crossing over to the west side. The vehicle came to final rest on the west shoulder on the driver's side.

Grundlock first said the steering wheel became locked and the vehicle lost control. He then told his father that he became distracted while reaching for a drink.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 7:52 a.m. on Sunday, Julie A. Schmidt, 52, Brazil, was westbound on U.S. 40 in a 2008 Ford F250 when she hit a deer.

Capt. Danny Wallace estimated damages at $1,001-$2,500.
