Thomas 'Gene' Cash

Thomas "Gene" Cash, 84, of Greencastle, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013.

He was born on April 7, 1929 in Greencastle to Clyde Cash and Anna Hammond Cash.

Gene was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He attended Purdue University and had been a member of the former Fillmore Lions Club.

He married Ellen Joan Cunningham on Oct. 8, 1950. Gene and Joan traveled to every state, and visited Alaska twice. Many family memories were made with the excursions in the pickup truck, where the family would "camp out" in the camper shell.

Gene retired from Cash Concrete with 50 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Ruth Ellen Barker; and three brothers, William Cash, Robert Cash and John Cash.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Joan; four children, Tom Cash and wife Carmen of Greencastle, Phyllis Legan and husband Mark of Coatesville, Kristi Robinson and husband Jim of Danville, and Dan Cash and wife Lori of Columbus; a sister, Mary Ann Lemley of Arizona; 14 grandchildren, Angie Murphy and husband Michael, Ellen Pilcher and husband Nick, Laura Clark, Emily Brinkman and husband Brian, Sarah Waters and husband Danny, Neal Cash and wife Brittany, Beth Tharp and husband Nick, Wendi Robinson, Julia Norris and husband Andrew, Mollie Cash, Luke Robinson, Jacob Cash, Lucy Cash and Briana Bryant; 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor Nathan Couch officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Coatesville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 4- 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

His family remembers his devotion to church, family and work.
