Two drivers injured in early morning accident Saturday

Two people were transported to area hospitals early Saturday after a two-vehicle accident at State Roads 240 and 75 near the Putnam-Hendricks county line, Indiana State Police at Putnamville reported.

Authorities try to sort out what happened at the scene of a two-vehicle accident early Saturday at Sate Roads 240 and 75 in eastern Putnam County. The 1 a.m. crash sent two people to area hospitals.

The accident occurred around 1 a.m. Saturday when Amouzou Kokou, 34, of Indianapolis, reportedly failed to stop at a stopsign at SR 240 and 75, a preliminary investigation revealed.

The Kokou vehicle, a 1999 Honda passenger car, was reportedly eastbound on SR 240, approaching 75.

State Police officials said when Kokou failed to stop at the intersection, his car struck a northbound 2005 Chrysler passenger car, driven by Christine Wold, 51, of Danville, who had the right of way.

After impact, both vehicles careened into a drainage ditch near the northeast corner of the intersection before coming to rest.

Kokou was transported to Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis with various injuries.

Wold was transported to Hendricks Regional Hospital at Danville with various injuries. Both drivers were reportedly in good condition.

Kokou was cited for disregarding a stopsign, State Police reported.

The crash was investigated by ISP Trooper Jonathan Cumbie.

Assisting at the scene were Putnam County Operation Life ambulance, Fillmore Fire Department and the Putnam and Hendricks county sheriff's offices.
